Mahogany Lifestyle Catwalk Show - the biggest bridal and lifestyle fashion show in the UK – introduced plus size models for the first time.
Stunning gowns by Voluptuous Brides featured in this prestigious fashion show. Falaux Mendy, founder of the specialist plus size bridal boutique reports, “the models were showing off their curves with pride. They looked beautiful in their ivory lace, burgundy taffeta and decorated satin dresses. These are real women, voluptuous and definitely beautiful. And if we listened to the crowd cheering them on and clapping, we’ll say they loved it too!“
Bridal manufacturers produce dresses patterned on a size 8 and enlarged to a size 24. Alterations are always required to fit a voluptuous figure. Voluptuous Brides cut dresses to accommodate generous curves and are made to measure as standard to ensure a perfect fit. There’s a growing demand for custom-made dresses as plus size brides seek perfection on the most important day of their lives. Falaux says, “I remember a few years back when we launched our company, no one wanted to hear about plus size brides. Now, not a month goes by without a feature appearing in a magazine. If only every bridal show could let us showcase our plus size models, it would show the current shift in the industry.”
The trend for plus size models continues in the UK with Chloe Marshall winning her Surrey heat and going on to compete for the Miss England crown in July. 17-year old student, Chloe, is the first size 16 contestant to show off her curves in a bikini. However, the trend for plus size contestants did not apply at the Miss USA pageant.
